Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i has told members of the Kisii community living in Kajiado to re-elect Governor Joseph Ole Lenku in 2022.
Dr Matiang’i rallied the Gusii community in a rare political pronouncement in Kiserian, Kajiado West yesterday.
Accompanied by his Cabinet colleagues Eugene Wamalwa ( Defence), Joe Mucheru ( ICT) and MPs from the Kisii community, Dr Matiang’i said Lenku was the best bet for the community as he had embraced other communities in the County.
He said the Governor had established a very cordial relationship with the National Government and fell short of declaring that Lenku was the Official candidate of the Handshake, a political union between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
” We are working well with Lenku. He has done transformative development and he us our man. He has ensured peace in ti’s great County,” said Matiang’i.
Some of the Kisii MPs present such as Simba Arati of Dagoretti North and Richard Onyonka( Kitutu Chache South) also hailed the Governor and supported Dr Matiang’is call for the community to unite and have a bargaining stake in both Kenya and in the County.
Dr Matiang’i spoke when he led the leaders who included the Governor in a fundraiser in aid of the Seventh Day Adventist ( Nairobi South Kajiado Field).
Interestingly, Dr Matiangi’s public endorsement of Governor Lenku, regarded one of President Kenyatta’s blue-eyed boys in the system, came only a week after he led hundreds of Gusii elected leaders and professionals at a top-secret strategy meeting at Fred’s Ranch in Isinya.
The Exclusive Ranch Is owned by influential radio personality Fred Obachi Machoka.
The meeting discussed, among other things, its support for ODM Raila Odinga’s ascendancy to the President’s, backed by President Kenyatta as well as how the Gusii community votes spread across various counties can be mobilized to boost their bargaining at the counties.
