Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri has announced that the Ministry of Agriculture will partner with One Acre Fund to boost food production in Kakamega County
One Acre Fund is an NGO based in Kakamega.
The CS spoke in Kakamega when he officially opened a Seed and Soil laboratory at One Acre Fund offices.
Kiunjuri regretted that very few financial institutions are loaning to farmers.
He said this has led to low investments in Agriculture.
“One-acre fund has a model of teaming up with farmers, giving them all the required inputs and at the end of every season, they are able to pay. For those who are not able to pay, we have insurance which steps in,” he said.
He said the government will use the e-voucher system to give subsidies to farmers.
One Acre Fund global director for government relations and policy Ms. Michelle Kagari said the organization is interested in working with the government.
“We will work with the Government to uplift small scale farmers. Doing so will help improve food production in the Country and Kakamega in particular,” Kagari said.
