Former Kajiado West MP Moses Ole Sakuda is heads and shoulders higher than his opponent for the Jubilee Party Senate ticket- Johnson Osoi.
Sakuda, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, is set to be issued with the Senate ticket after a thorough balancing act by Jubilee Party kitchen Cabinet.
Sakuda is firmly in the team of former Governor David Ole Nkedienye and his running mate Joseph Manje, the Kajiado North MP.
Sakuda’s edge over Osoi was climaxed by the win of Samuel Seki in the UDA Senate primaries last week.
Both Seki and Osoi hail from Kankere, one of the smallest voting blocks in Kajiado County.
As such therefore, it would be politically value less for Jubilee to give Osoi the ticket as the numbers from that area would be negligible.
Both Seki and Osoi belong to the Orokiteng clan, a factor that was making them attractive to the Nkedienye camp.
Nkedienye hails from the Odomong’i clan and therefore the clan balance.
On the other side, Sakuda comes from the populous Keekonyokie region and is likely to land the Keekonyokie and Ewuaso Oonkidong wards which are key battlegrounds in the vast Kajiado West Constituency.
Sakuda’s rating was also boosted by the fact that he served as MP for the larger Kajiado North in 2012 when Prof George Saitoti died.
In 2013, this mega Constituency was split into Kajiado North, Kajiado East and Kajiado West constituencies.
This means Sakuda has a network in the three constituencies and therefore able to mobilize votes there.
Osoi has never vied for an elective seat though he has been elected twice by a handful of MCAs as their Speaker.
According to a confidential report seen by Hot News, the Jubilee team also considers Sakuda as financially endowed, a mobilisers and orator and generous and will cover up the “meanness” of the Nkedienye camp.
Osoi’s financial capacity is hard to quantify as he has not been on a campaign trail. He started campaigning two months ago.
In a few days, it will be clearer as to who will fly the Senatorial flag for Jubilee to challenge ODM’s candidate, Judith Pareno.
