Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa has asked proponents and opponents of the BBI not to appeal the court’s verdict that will be delivered in August.
The seven-judge bench hearing the BBI appeal last week said it will take 50 days to make a ruling.
Court of Appeal President Daniel Musinga said they will deliver the judgment on August 20.
The August 2022 General Election is fast approaching, and election experts have warned that the plebiscite is no longer tenable.
Former Attorney General Githu Muigai last week pleaded with the court to give an early date because of the IEBC timelines.
Addressing school Principals from his constituency after launching a sh.35 Million CDF bursary, the MP said the antagonists should not rush to the Supreme Court in case the court of Appeal will uphold the High Court ruling.
The high court had ruled that the initiative is unconstitutional thus posing the “reggae”.
Wamalwa said moving to the Supreme court will derail IEBC’s plans for organizing next year’s elections.
He said the move may lead some people to push for postponing next year’s elections to 2023.
COTU SG Francis Atwoli last week said that the next years elections should be postponed should BBI not got through.
“We can only postpone the elections if there is war, and that is according to the Constitution. IEBC should continue preparing for elections in August next year “he said.
The sh.35 Million bursary will help pay fees for students from humble background both at the University and secondary schools.
He asked the Headmasters not to send students away and instead wait for the money which will be processed and wired in the school accounts.
