Operations at Narok Water and Sewerage Service company many soon stall after the company reportedly went broke.
Since the year begun, insiders said the company has struggled to pay its employees.
Several employees said statutory deductions like NHIF, NSSF and KRA are not remitted on time.
An employee who sought anonymity told Hot News that in February, KRA wrote a demand letter, and the management was forced to remit the cash.
However, the employee said the company is making shs 10 million in profits every month and wondered why it is doing poorly.
“There is no increment despite the hard work we do. The company has not been remitting our loan deduction to Family Bank. We had agreed with the Bank and the Company. We are forced to pay interest or at times the bank deducts the loan from our entire salary, and we go home without pay,” said the employee.
The employees also claimed that the Company does not pay them overtime allowances and that there is no safety at work.
They claimed NARWASCO no longer provides chemical masks, raincoats, and safety boots and that several of them have fallen ill.
Another employee added that they have been denied a chance to join the union.
The employees added that the management has resorted to paying their salaries through MPESA instead of bank accounts.
When reached for comment, NARWASSCO’s Commercial manager Evelyn Naisenya dismissed the claims as false.
“Those are lies. We will respond appropriately,” she told Hot News.
The Company’s Managing Director Stanley Kuyon promised to respond to our queries.
By the time of going to press, COTU secretary General Francis Atwoli had not responded to our queries on what action the Union will take to ensure NARWASSCO allows its employees to join a union.
Other employees said the Commercial and Managing Directors terms are coming to an end in July.
They appealed to Narok Governor Samuel Ole Tunai not to renew their terms.
“The two haven’t done much for us. Their contracts should not be renewed. We need a new team to ensure the company doesn’t collapse,” said an employee.
Below is an MPESA message of an employee reing his salary via MPESA instead of the Bank.
Employees said the Company paid them the April salary via MPESA to avoid paying the deductions to Family Bank yet it had guaranteed them.
