Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya has called on residents of Trans Nzoia County to elect good leaders.
In a video that has been doing rounds on social media, Natembeya decried poor leadership in the County.
“We must have somebody who has a vision for this county. The world will be a better place with good leadership. We must have somebody who can talk to the Cabinet Secretary and tell him that the road between Sikhendu and Endebess is deplorable…. We must have somebody who plans. Not waiting when the Minister visits and then you tell him the road is bad. Somebody who ensures the idea is put in the budget,” he said amid cheers from the crowd.
He asked local leaders not to abuse and insult the government officials over the weekend and then on Monday troop into government offices seeking services.
“After insulting a Minister over the weekend and you want to see him on Monday, your guilt alone won’t allow you,” he warned.
He said such leaders then go ahead and tell their constituents that the government is bad- which is not true.
He told the residents that they should vet each leader and elect people with integrity and not people who are swayed and influenced by money.
He added that the residents must elect people who will listen and address their problems.
“Let us stop this culture of Mbekho (give me something small). Let us take our kids to school so that they become self-employed and competent,” he said.
Natembeya however lauded the people of Trans Nzoia and Rift Valley for the handwork they do and said they are not lazy.
However, the viral video was interpreted as a coded message by Natembeya.
Some residents said he wants to join politics and vie for the Trans Nzoia Governors seat.
“Natembeya is our son, and we will definitely support him when he comes. We know this message has sent cold chills down the spines of some front runners here. He has our support” said Eva Nafula from Kapkoi Village.
