Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya has resigned to contest for the Tans Nzoia Governors seat.
According to residents, Natembeya is the favorite to win.
Addressing the Media in Nakuru town, Natembeya said he has been in public service for the last 25 years.
He thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for giving him the opportunity to serve as Rift Valley Regional Commissioner.
Rift Valley has 14 Counties.
He said President Uhuru Kenyatta occasionally called him to find out what was happening in the region.
Natembeya added that whenever he called the President- he picked his calls.
“I also want to thank the CS Internal Security Fred Matiangi and my immediate supervisor PS Karanja Kibicho, Inspector of Police Hillary Mutyambai and DCI boss George Kinoti. We worked well and in harmony-I appreciate,” he said.
He added that there were no barriers to a good working relationship.
The resignation has sent shockwaves among the supporters of Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa.
Wamalwa wants to succeed Governor Patrick Khaemba whose term comes to an end in August.
The former commissioner said he would use his experience in leadership to transform the county.
According to political pundits, Natembeya will be vying for the seat on the Democratic Action Party (DAP).
He is a close ally of Defense CS Eugene Wamalwa who is linked to the Party.
