The Professional Criminologists Association of Kenya (PCAK) has called on the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Director of Criminal Investigations to move with speed and unearth alleged massive looting of funds at Maasai Mara University.
This comes after an incriminating expose’ by Citizen TV on Sunday night aired at 7 pm and 9 pm.
In the expose, the institution is suspected to have lost millions.
In a press release, (PCAK) condemned the well-orchestrated scheme by MMU Vice Chancellor professor Mary Walingo to steal close to Ksh 200 million.
“It is an abuse to humanity, injustice and immoral for a Professor and a Vice Chancellor assumed to be the country’s think-tank and a role model to the society on educational virtues- finally becomes the engineer of the worst immoral act of stealing before the very eyes of the needy orphans and the disadvantaged who are struggling to raise a coin to fund their education.” Said PCAK Director of strategic communication Rishi Parikh.
PCAK Patron Malkit Singh said one of the major objectives of PCAK is to ensure that professionalism is embraced in security management and prevention of crime at all levels.
The Association said since the revelations, Kenyans have been left wondering what really transpires in both private and public institutions of higher learning in terms of management of resources.
PCAK also want whistle blowers to be accorded protection and appropriately rewarded.
A former presidential candidate and a long serving lecturer at Moi University professor James Ole Kiyapi took to social media to condemn the theft.
“What is happening in Maasai Mara is not even corruption, it is open theft of public resources. For all the years I spent in various universities, I have never seen that kind of imprudence at a VC’s office. This is wrong. Disgusting. Open betrayal. DCI/DPP over to you! ,” Ole Kiyapi said.
