The Board of Directors of Kenya Human Rights Commission has appointed Davis Malombe as the Executive Director.
Malombe takes over from George Kegoro who left the organization last year.
In a press statement, Professor Makau Mutua, the Commission’s chairperson said Malomba will assume the new role immediately.
“It is my pleasure to announce that the Board of Directors has appointed Davis Malombe the Executive Director of the organization effective immediately,” said Mutua in a statement.
Mutua added that Prior to his appointment, Malombe has been an integral colleague at KHRC.
He served as the programme officer and the Deputy Executive Director at the same time was knowledgeable on addressing sensitive matters.
“Malombe has a wealth of experience in addressing sensitive and complex questions which requires the confrontation of the state and vested interests that run roughshod over basic constitutional and basic rights,” Mutua added.
He added that Malombe’s leadership is key as the country heads to the electioneering year.
His appointment comes amid high concerns of abductions and violations of human rights and even murders in the past few days.
