The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti has said plans are underway to partner with the Professional Criminologists Association of Kenya (PCAK) in capacity building.
He said his department is committed to win public confidence since its image had been tainted and seen as belonging to thieves.
“The value of any society or country is in its efficiency in crime management. It is a determinant of a nation’s peace and stability.” Kinoti said.
Kinoti spoke in his office at the DCI headquarters on Kiambu road Tuesday evening when PCAK board members paid him a courtesy call.
The board was led by the organization’s legal counsel Gitobu Imanyara and its founding chairman Munene Mugambi.
PCAK is a non-political organization that aims at promoting the professionalism and practice of criminology in Kenya and beyond.
“All should be done to ensure professionalism in this field is enhanced.” Kinoti said
Mugambi said the Association endeavors to promote effective and efficient services in crime prevention, detection and investigation among others.
“The DCI boss has today officially joined the PCAK family as a full individual member.” Said Mugambi.
He said Kinoti promised to mobilize members of the DCI to join PCAK.
Kinoti said for many years, criminologists had been sidelined because of lack of a professional body to advance their agenda.
“PCAK should have come earlier. It is so demoralizing to see relatively smaller sectors and organisations having professional bodies while criminologists functioned as orphans with nobody to speak about their critical needs.” He said.
He said any sector without a professional body is open to abuse and mediocrity adding that a professional body will enhance career growth.
He thanked the government for equipping the directorate with modern forensic facilities that have ensured efficiency making the directorate competitive.
Kinoti said science is key into any meaningful investigations.
Kinoti will be the Chief Guest during a corporate training on governance organized by PCAK on January 25 in Nairobi.
