A city lawyer has urged the government to embrace mediation in all public places and homes as a way of solving disputes.
Lawyer Peter Njagi says that its only through mediation that our courts will reduce case logs and at the same time create peace.
“Mediation is the best way of reducing congestion in our courts. It’s a win-win situation,” he told the press on Tuesday.
Njagi advised that mediation can be done even when the matter has been filed in court as the conflicting parties can appoint a mediator.
“The court supervises the whole process, when the mediator solves the matter amicably, then the matter is considered solved but when not, the court can be tasked to hear and determine the whole matter,” he said.
He added that mediation has a high level of privacy, its faster and profitable to both parties.
“I urge Kenyans to embrace mediation as it’s an ideal thing to go by, no one is compensated in a criminal case, but the fines are usually paid to the States,” he said.
Njagi urged the Judiciary to help Kenyans by referring some matters back to conflicting parties to solve them through mediation.
