Scores of traders in Ngong town have been conned of at least Sh 25,000 each to get a stall at the newly built market.
The market has been built by the County Government of Kajiado and the World Bank.
The racket has been going on for the last one month when construction of the market hit the 75 per cent mark to completion.
Ngong MCA Muoria Sungura is being probed over the fraud, which involved some of his aides.
One of them passed as the MCA’s Personal Assistant (P.A).
On Wednesday afternoon, pressure mounted on the MCA to declare his interest in the stalls being sold illegally to unsuspecting traders forcing him to denounce the racket and his aides through his Facebook account.
In a long post, the MCA disowned the suspected fraudsters saying one of them, Anthony Mbiriri, an aide, was not one of his staff.
“The imposter (Anthony Mbiriri) is neither my staff or that of the Kajiado County Government. He was caught disguised as a PA to mtumishi Sungura, authorized to conduct actions on things even warned by His Excellency the Governor,” said Sungura.
The deadlocked MCA called on the affected traders to report to Ngong Police station.
Traders who spoke to Hot News at Bulbul and at the market said they had been approached by the suspect to part with Sh 50,000 but negotiations went down to Sh 25,000 to be helped to get a stall at the upcoming market.
The market has a capacity of 2,000 with the original list used by World Bank having 1, 600 traders.
