A grand plan has been hatched by strategists of former Governor David Nkedienye to back his clansman Kajiado South MP Katoo Ole Metito for Kajiado, if the Jubilee Party fails to give him the ticket to run for Governor.
The exit from ODM to Jubilee which was known by Jubilee insiders a fortnight ago resulted from the confirmation by ODM party leader Raila Odinga that the party would not hand over the ticket for Kajiado Governorship following an agreement with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
It is Mr Odinga’s assertion that he would support Jubilee for Kajiado Governorship that forced a frustrated Nkedienye and his Running mate Joseph Manje to join Jubilee even when it was clear President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga were backing sitting Governor Joseph Ole Lenku for re-election.
Lenku is regarded in Jubilee and National Government circles as one of the President’s most loyal politicians.
He has also successfully managed to transit to the heart of the ODM top brass and become a key player in the Azimio La Umoja political train.
It was therefore implausible to assume he can easily lose the Jubilee ticket to a newcomer.
Intelligence reports handed over to senior Jubilee Party officials NOW CONFIRM Dr Nkedienye and Mr Metito held a secret meeting last week to discuss their future and plot revenge against Mr Kenyatta and Mr Odinga.
Nkedienye has said in many public meetings that he would fly the ODM flag to the ballot.
“They know it is quite difficult to defect this late and get the ticket of a party like Jubilee where the Head of State is the party leader. This is especially after The President sacked him from the chairmanship of the board of National Water Harvesting Authority (NWHA) last year,” said the source.
It added,” The boldness with which he walked out of ODM, a party he has been a member for close to a decade speaks volumes. He isn’t going to Jubilee for the ticket. He went there to be denied it and then bolt out as a victim and shift his allegiance,” said the security agency source.
Aware of the unclearness of the ultimate mission, Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni skipped the reception of the former Governor and it was delegated to Kieni MP Kanini Kega.
Nkedienye and Katoo come from the Odomong’i clan and may not mind each other.
In 2017, it was not a secret in Oloitokitok that although Katoo was in Jubilee and purported to support Lenku, the party’s candidate, he would hold clan meetings at night and vouch for Nkedienye, “his brother”.
He argued that Nkedienye’s second term as governor would allow him to vie in 2022.
And that is why the MP engineered a fall out with Lenku midway the term to prepare the ground for him to run for the Governorship as initially planned.
