Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has said his development record speaks for itself during his tenure as Member of Parliament and now Governor.
Speaking during a fundraiser in aid of Completion of Kamolo Catholic Church in Teso North Sub County, the Governor listed many development projects he initiated in the region when he served as MP.
“My Government has initiated many projects and it’s a matter of time when residents will realize the fruits of devolution. Residents should back such initiatives instead of constant criticisms,” he said.
The Governor called for a level playing field in the 2022 gubernatorial contest telling those who will be battling for the seat to conduct themselves with decorum instead of engaging in witch-hunt.
Governor Ojaamong said he will support the referendum if counties will benefit from increased budgetary allocations and the culture of ‘winner-take-it all’ becomes a thing of the past,” he said.
Busia Women Representative Florence Mutua urged other departments to emulate the Public Works, Transport, Roads and Energy department to make the Governor’s work easy and his legacy a reality.
“The Governor faced numerous challenges in his first term due to lack of structures which he put in place first. This is the time to ensure all the projects he started are completed,” she said.
Mutua said the push for a referendum is unstoppable to have an all-inclusive government and a parliamentary system of government where MPs can be appointed as cabinet secretaries.
Malaba South Member of the County Assembly David Kokonya said the 12.5km road funded by the World Bank linking parts of Teso South, North and Nambale sub counties will boost trade in the region.
