The Professional Criminologists Association of Kenya (PCAK) has condemned the torching of police houses at Mirera police post in Naivasha subcounty.
The houses were allegedly set on fire by unknown people on Thursday at dawn.
In a statement to newsrooms, PCAK founding chairman Munene Mugambi said PCAK expressed fear that security in the area can easily be compromised.
Mugambi called on the Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai to intervene to stop possible increase of crime in the area.
He said consultations should be initiated with a view of upgrading Mirera police post to a full police station.
He said this will enhance better services to residents.
“As a professional criminologist’s body, we are deeply concerned that the resulting interruption of policing operations at the Mirera police post is eminent, hence the risk of jeopardizing the security situation in Mirera and its environs “he said.
Speaking to Hot News on phone,Naivasha Subcounty Police Commander Samuel Waweru confirmed the incident.
“We are investigating the cause of the fire. Three officers, a female and two males have lost all their valuables.” Waweru said.
He said no fatalities were reported during the 1.30 am incident.
Mugambi said the security situation in Mirera has improved since the establishment of the police post through joint efforts by the government and the local community.
PCAK has called for thorough investigations to establish the motive of the alleged arson attack and that the culprits should face the law.
“The Mirera police post ought to be treated as a crime scene and it is important that adequate measures be put in place by the police to properly secure the scene.” PCAK said.
The chairman said PCAK is an Association tasked with ensuring professionalism in the criminal justice system.
He said the Association will continue supporting efforts and initiatives aimed at enhancing security across the country by working with all stakeholders.
