The Communist Party of Kenya has called on the Government to protect Kenyans Rights and Health despite the Covid-19 Pandemic.
CPK wants the government to compel Insurance Companies to pay for medical bills of Kenyans who will be treated of Covid -19.
Party Vice Chairman Booker Ngesa Omole said there is speculation that Insurance firms will not cover Covid-19 treatment.
Ngesa said during pandemics and crises of such magnitude, it is the working class and masses that suffer most.
He said the suffering is not accidental.
“It is because the capitalist system is designed that way,” he said.
CPK asked businesspeople not to take advantage of the current situation to make more profits by increasing the prices of basic commodities.
The Party commended the Competition Authority of Kenya and other Government agencies for taking punitive measures against some of these profiteers.
The party called for proper sensitization of the masses on the prevention and detection of Covid-19.
“Workers should be protected from profit-obsessed bosses and their organisations. The government must give strict orders to employers to ensure that their workers get full pay during this uncertain period” CPK said in a press release.
CPK also called on the National Government and the County Governments to ensure uninterrupted water supply especially in Towns and urban settlements.
“Kenyans must demand for the realization of our National Values and Principles of Governance as espoused in Article 10 of our Constitution which actually demands for socialism,” CPK said.
The Party added that Kenya needs to implement Article 43 of the Constitution to the fullest.
Article 43 states that that every Kenyan must have decent housing; clean and safe water; adequate and nutritious food; access to the highest standards of health and healthcare; access to social security; and access to education.
