A protocol hitch caused confusion at CS Keriako Tobikos Dad‘s burial.
The burial of Mzee Tobiko Paloshe was at Mashuuru in Kajiado East.
Several leaders including Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku were unable to address the mourners who started leaving immediately Internal Security CS Fred Matiangi finished reading President Uhuru Kenyattas speech.
Protocol demands that no one else can speak after the President has spoken or his speech read.
Some of the mourners who attended said that CS Keriako called out Governor Lenku’s name and went up the podium after Kajiado Central MP Memusi Kanchori who was the master of ceremony called Interior CS Fred Matting’s to read President Kenyatta’s condolence message before Governor Lenku’s speech.
Others said the protocol hitch was necessitated by a lapse in time since some of the guests had to fly to several parts of the country using choppers and darkness was approaching.
Most choppers do not fly at night.
Interior CS Fred Matingi reportedly left immediately he finished delivering the president’s speech and did not listen to Governor Lenkus speech.
Several other guests also left and this reportedly angered Governor Lenku.
Some of Governor Lenkus supporters blamed MP Memusi for bypassing him.
Both former Governor David Nkedienye and current Governor Lenku were cheered by their supporters on arrival.
Some mourners said Ms Peris Tobiko, who is also a daughter of the late Mzee Tobiko Paloshe started the protocol breach when she rose to “Give a vote of thanks” before any political leader was allowed to talk.
Ms Tobiko and Mr Memusi are close allies and are reportedly opposed to Governor Lenku’s administration.
The breach of protocol further angered the mourners especially because Mr Memusi had accorded former Governor David Nkedianye 10 minutes to address the mourners prompting Kajiado County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha to force Dr Nkedianye to cut his long speech.
CS Keriako Tobiko thanked Governor Lenku for his generous contribution to the family and the time they spent with them.
