Two Kajiado MPs who are new allies of Deputy President William Ruto were dressed down by a crowd in his presence in what is becoming a new political alignment in the County.
The two ran into crowd trouble in separate events attended by Mr Ruto in what is being interpreted as a tumultuous entry of Mr Ruto into Jubilee zones in the cosmopolitan County.
Kajiado South MP Katoo Ole Metito was the first to get the dose of the hostile crowd when he claimed Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, whom he has said he wants to dethrone in 2022, had told a thanks giving ceremony in Keekonyokie Ward on Friday that he would defend his seat “even if it took bloodshed”.
The crowd that was at Politician Daniel Tiinai openly shouted the MP down saying they had attended the thanksgiving of Dennis Kusero but Governor Lenku had not uttered words to that effect.
They shouted “Uongo! Uongo! Wacha upuuzi na propaganda ya pesa nane”.
Mr Tiinai was officially unveiled as Mr Ruto’s choice for Kajiado Senatorial seat in 2022, effectively throwing Senator Philip Mpaayei under the bus.
Mpaayei beat Tiinai in 2017.
Mr Metito’s allegations were loudly refuted as apparently most of those who attended had attended the homecoming party.
The allegation has lit a political fire with Lenku’s allies led by former Senator Peter Mositet, former Nairobi Speaker Alex Magelo and Majority Whip James Waichanguru terming Mr Metito’s allegations as divisive and inciting.
Done with Mr Metito at Tinaai’s home, the crowd proceeded to Kiserian Town, a stronghold of Mr Lenku, to listen to Mr Ruto.
But area MP George Sunkuyia, commonly known as Kajiado’s foremost watermelon, was jeered and was unable to address the crowd.
Mr Sunkuyia, a former ally of Lenku was accused of double-dealing locals by being a political chameleon to the detriment of local development.
They shouted slogans in support of Jubilee and President Kenyatta.
Kiserian is a Jubilee stronghold with Lenku overwhelmingly winning votes at the populous John Bosco Catholic Church polling station in 2017.
One side of Kiserian town is also in Kajiado North Constituency where Lenku calls the political shots, going by the support he garnered there.
The Metito/Sunkuyia “Bad Day in Keekonyokie” could herald a new beginning in local politics between Tanga Tanga Camp and the camp allied to President Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
