An ecstatic crowd in Kimana town in Kajiado South shouted down Deputy President William Ruto when he tried to invoke the name of their area MP Katoo Ole Metito as the next Kajiado Governor.
The crowd in the horticulturally- endowed town gave the clearest indication that they were comfortable with Governor Joseph Ole Lenku’s second term by shouting his name when the DP mentioned Katoo Ole Metito’s name.
Both Governor Lenku and Mr Metito hail from Kajiado South and they are embroiled in a tough battle for the control of the Constituency, regarded one of the swing votes in the gubernatorial race.
Trouble started when word went round in Kajiado South on Sunday that the DP was at one of the top hotels in the Amboseli National Park where they were discussing the ongoing subdivision of the Olgulului-Olalashi group ranch.
Incidentally, the DP was hosted at the hotel by the Group ranch officials sending panic to households who are struggling to get their share of the disputed group ranch.
At the hotel, the DP also met a group of Kamba leaders led by Former Nairobi Deputy Governor, Jonathan Mueke.
In Kimana, where Mr Katoo has a home, the crowd became jittery at the DP’s insistence on them choosing all candidates of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in a style commonly known as the “Suit”.
The mention of Katoo as his preferred gubernatorial candidate was met with shouts to the contrary forcing him to concentrate on wooing the voters for his presidential seat.
