Residents of Saayiet area in Narok County remain without power 6 years after applying for it.
Their efforts to get connected have been futile.
The residents told Hot News that the local Kenya Power officials have been selective while distributing the power.
They said the Rural Electrification Authority, partnered with Kenya Power to supply power to the area but several homes were deliberately skipped.
“Some of us are within the 600 meters range where the Transformer is. However, some people who are far have had their homes connected whereas we have been skipped, “said a resident who requested anonymity.
They called on REA to intervene.
The residents said they have had to rely on Solar Power which cannot drive some of the home machineries.
They added that they have also sought the help of their local MP Moitalel Ole Kenta but have not received any help.
“We have power lines flying over our land. Infact the main power lines are above my father’s grave. But we do not have electricity,” said another resident.
The residents said they are planning a demonstration to force Kenya Power to connect them with electricity.
The head of Kenya Power office in Narok identified as Mr Njoroge told Hot News that the residents who have not related to power are away from the required 600 meters from the Transformer.
He said the residents should rally their local leaders including the Chief so that they meet and resolve the issue.
Njoroge said his office has not discriminated against any resident and that he has not been rude to the locals as they allege.
“I came to Narok a few years ago. I was not here 6 years back. Its unfair to blame us,” he said.
Devolution PS Charles Sunkuli has been asked to intervene and ensure the locals get power.
