The Senate Public Accounts Committee has fined Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu a total of shs 500,000 after she failed to appear before it three times.
The Chair of the Committee Moses Kajwang said that Ngilu should pay the cash to the Senate Clerk.
He said the money should be from Ngilus “purse” and not from the County coffers.
The committee said it had previously summoned Ngilu to appear before it to answer to audit queries, but she failed.
While appearing before the Committee, Ngilu denied any wrongdoing and said that all the relevant documents sought by the committee will be availed.
She said she will contest the ruling.
“Senator Mithika Linturui has a Njuri Ncheke meeting to attend. We in Homa Bay carry out burials on Fridays, Kiambu’s Kimani Wamatangi has other businesses to attend to on Fridays, we are not just here to waste time,” Kajwang told Ngilu.
The Senators wondered why Ngilu who has been a long serving MP, former Minister and even a Presidential Candidate would “breach the rules and disregard Parliament,”
