Seven people have so far announced they want to take over from Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba in 2022.
They are Deputy president William Ruto’s advisor on infrastructure Kakai Bisau, his legal counterpart Abraham Sing’oei, Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, his Endebess counterpart Robert Pukose,Women representative Janet Nangabo, politician Moses Khaoya, ministry of devolution advisor Andrew Wanyonyi and former IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba.
Trans Nzoia speaker Joshua Werunga and politician Allan Chesan’g who had earlier shown interest in the seat seem to have withdrawn from the race and are said to be scheming how to get the Trans Nzoia Senate seat.
All those who have shown interest in the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat are carrying out their early campaigns in their own styles.
Bisau,Sing’oei, Wanyonyi and Khaoya are said to be organizing secret meetings with their strategists.
Wamalwa and Nangabo have publicly declared they will be going for the seat and have been campaigning especially in funerals.
They have been telling mourners that they are capable of taking the county to the next level.
“I am ready to deal with anybody, anytime anywhere, I only fear God, and I am ready to take over as the next Governor of Trans Nzoia”Wamalwa said at Chalicha in his constituency on Monday.
Nangabo has however said 2022 will be the right time for Trans Nzoia to elect a woman for the Governor’s position adding men have underperformed in different leadership positions.
“A mother doesn’t know the tribe because it is the mother’s womb that carries the Luo, the Luhya, the Kikuyu, and others, I am the best to replace Governor Khaemba when the time comes”Nangabo said.
Kakai Bisau who will be trying his luck for the third time on the other hand says in 2022,he will be the best candidate and has an upper hand to be elected the Governor.
Speaking to Hotnews, Bisau said he has an elaborate plan different from the previous elections and that he will win.
“I will deal with anyone when the right time comes because I will be employing political tactics accordingly” Bisau said.
In 2017 elections,Bisau garnered over 70,000 votes against Khaemba’s 130,000.
Bisau and Sing’oei are reportedly Deputy president William Ruto’s favorites in Trans Nzoia.
Chiloba has not been seen in the public to declare his ambitions but his supporters have been crisscrossing the county to inform the public over his 2022 bid.
Those close to Pukose said he is extremely secretive in his plans and that he has hinted he will join the race the last minute.
A Kitale based pastor John Wanjala said the chances of Bisau becoming the Governor are slim because CS Eugene Wamalwa has so far discarded him unlike in 2017 when he worked tirelessly to support him.
“In the event that Eugene will not support the candidature of Bisau, then Bisau’s chances to become the Governor are slim, but since currently the CS is not in good terms with him then it will be difficult for Bisau to succeed Khaemba”said Wanjala.
