After the race to succeed Governor Patrick Khaemba in Trans Nzoia got crowded, focus has now shifted on who will be the Deputy Governor.
So far, those who want to succeed Khaemba include CS Eugene Wamalwa, Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, Moses Khaoya, DP Rutos handman Abraham Sing’oei, woman representative Janet Nangabo, Kakai Bisau and Joseph Mburu.
Last week, Eugene Wamalwa said he will disappoint many who have already started campaigning
Saboti MCA David Kapoloman wants to deputize Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa.
A section of the youth and part of the Sabaot community leaders want Saboti constituency manager Luke Naibei to deputize Eugene Wamalwa.
Both Naibei and Kapoloman come from the Sabaot community.
The community is the second largest after the Luhya.
Both vied for Saboti MCA seat.
After failing to make it, Naibei contested for Trans Nzoia County Assembly speaker seat and lost to Joshua Werunga.
He was lucky to be appointed Constituency manager.
Naibei holds a master’s degree in Human Resource.
Kapoloman however graduated with his first degree this year after completing a course in Business administration.
“We are happy to announce our support to Mr Luke Naibei that he becomes a running mate to Eugene Wamalwa. This is because of his good leadership traits. The Sabaot community will support him,” said the community’s youth leader Timothy Kiprop.
Kiprop’s sentiments were supported by Eliud Imbai who said Naibei can be equal to the task if given the opportunity.
Some residents want Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa to pick Trans Nzoia Water Chief officer John Meng’wa instead of Kapoloman.
Meng’wa is perceived to be rich but lacks Political clout.
Last week during the burial of Fred Nyairo,a prominent lawyer, Chris Wamalwa said he has not settled on a running mate.
He said Kapoloman was leading the race after 32 people applied for the position.
Bisau, Nangabo, Sing’oei and Khaoya are yet to identify their possible deputies.
Currently, the Deputy Governor for Trans Nzoia is Stanley Tarus, who was picked from the Nandi subtribe of the Kalenjin community.
He has deputized Khaemba since 2013.
