Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has finally fallen out with Majority leader Abdi Guyo.
In a letter addressed to the substantive Speaker Beatrice Elachi, Sonko said that Guyo has been undermining his administration through intimidation, interference and cajoling of staff.
“This has made it difficult for me to implement the Jubilee Manifesto and focusing on the Big four agendas,” Sonko wrote to Elachi.
Sonko added that as the Governor of Nairobi, he has proposed Maringo Hamza MCA Mark Ndung’u as the new Majority Leader.
He asked Elachi to effect the changes.
Sonko’s letter came late in the evening after a day of entertaining drama that culminated in tears- as a results of tear gas from the police.
On Wednesday morning, Elachi stormed City Hall and made a “grand entrance”.
City MCA’s had impeached Elachi last year and locked her out of office.
She obtained a court order to return to City Hall but some MCA’s forced her out.
Elachi’s entry caught many people by surprise.
There was a stand off as Elachi and her supporters stormed office and a section of Jubilee MCA’s tried to prevent her.
While the drama was going on, Ngara MCA Chege Mwaura who has been the acting speaker was locked in Majority leader Abdi Guyos office.
Elachi accused Guyo of disrespecting women.
“He said that I go have sex with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. That’s disrespecting Raila’s wife Ida Odinga and women. That’s not right,” Elachi said.
Guyo reportedly made the remarks in the Assembly on Tuesday.
When contacted for comment, Guyo did not pick calls nor answer text messages sent to his phone.
During the scuffle, there were live bullets that were fired and Elachi accused a section of Guyo’s supporters for teargassing her.
They in turn blamed Elachi’s supporters.
The drama went on the whole day and Elahi who assumed her roles adjourned the Assembly.
