Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba has asked Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa to stop attacking him in funerals.
Addressing a gathering in Saboti while launching a maize drier, Khaemba told Wamalwa that becoming a Governor is not a matter of “butter and bread”.
Wamalwa has been campaigning for the last one year in a bid to succeed Khaemba in 2022.
He has been verbally attacking Khaemba saying he has failed to initiate development activities in Trans Nzoia.
“Wamalwa has been insulting me adding that I don’t attend funerals, my style of leadership and politics are different” Khaemba said.
The Governor said Wamalwa has a tendency of attacking his administration yet he Wamalwa has failed to fight for the construction of roads in his constituency.
“That person who is fond of attending funerals must know that it is not easy being a Governor. Some of you will wish I come back after my retirement in 2022″an angry Khaemba told the residents.
According to political analysts in Trans Nzoia, Khaemba’s reaction against Wamalwa’s moves means he will either back CS Eugene Wamalwa,Moses Khaoya or Andrew Wanyonyi to succeed him.
Khaemba spoke three days after former Kwanza MP and forestry minister Noah wekesa asked Chris Wamalwa to stop early campaigns.
Speaking at Kinyoro on Saturday, Wekesa said Chris Wamalwa “can campaign for three years and somebody else will come in the last minutes and defeat him”.
Political analysts indicated that Wekesa was referring to Eugene Wamalwa.
Others who will be vying for the seat include DP William Ruto’s aides Kakai Bisau and Abraham Sing’oei among others.
It is believed that any candidate who will be backed by Khaemba will have an added advantage over the rest.
Residents believe the candidate will inherit a quarter of the county’s voters that are Khaemba’s diehards.
