In August 2018, Rashid Echesa accused ODM leader Raila Odinga of plotting to have him sacked from the post.
Rashid, who was at one time the ODM national youth leader before defecting to Jubilee, claims Raila was unhappy with his appointment.
Early this year, eight Pakistani women, who were flown into the country through the assistance of Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa, were deported.
The eight belly dancers, alongside one Indian dancer were deported for violating terms of their temporary passes that allowed them into Kenya, allegedly to promote transnational culture.
However, the women, all aged above 18 and suspected to have been victims of human trafficking were arrested at a social club in Parklands, and arraigned in court on charges of being in the country illegally.
Echesa denied any knowledge and links to the girls.
Echesa has fallen out with Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala and they have often had bitter exchanges both in public and on social media.
Last year Echesa allegedly paid some journalist to create some nude photographs of Senator Malala and spread them on social media.
The journalists were arrested and later released by police.
Echesas tenure as Sports CS has been riddled with controversy after the other.
In November 2018, Sports, Culture and Tourism committee criticized the Sports ministry headed by Echesa on the efficiency of the Sports ministry.
The committee said the ministry poorly treated the national amputee football team.
Echesa and his PS were Peter Kaberia were accused of “mishandling” the team.
The team represented the country at the World Amputee football tournament held in Mexico, but were forced to spend the night at the Ministry of Sports boardroom as they demanded allowances upon return from Mexico.
Committee chairman Victor Munyaka said the incident had embarrassed the country and should never be allowed to happen again.
“This team was representing Kenya and we are pained at the bad treatment they were subjected to.
“We should learn to treat our people well,” he said.
Some people have celebrated the sacking of Echesa whereas others have mourned it.
“He is our son from Western Kenya. Even if he was not liked, there was a balance in the cabinet,” said Alfred Mangoli a Nairobi businessman.
@Roselyne Obala, “Echesa’s political star dashed,”
