Trans Nzoia County Commissioner has banned local politicians from donating branded hand sanitizers to residents.
The Commissioner said politicians are simply out to get political mileage and do not intent to fight Covid -19.
The Commissioner- Sam Ojwang asked those who wish to donate towards fighting the pandemic to do so through the County Covid -19 response Committee.
He faulted politicians for branding the items saying its “a bad image”
This comes two weeks after several politicians started contributing water containers and soap for hand washing.
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, Kiminini MCA David Kisaka his counterpart Martin Jamanur and Kapomboi ward aspirant John Matala are among those who have contributed branded items.
“There will be no issuance of items without the approval of the County Corona response committee because we also need to know whether they are genuine or fake,” said Ojwang.
Ojwang who was accompanied by Deputy Governor Stanley Tarus spoke after a meeting with the Covid -19 response team.
Kenya seed managing Director Azariah Soi donated 100 water containers and 500 liters of liquid soap to the response team.
They will be supplied to residents.
Soi dispelled fears over inconveniences that the Pandemic might have caused on farming.
He said 95 percent of farmers had already purchased seeds and are ready to plant their maize.
He said Kenya Seed will plant 25,000 tons of seeds.
Tarus thanked Kenya seed for the donation and urged other well-wishers to follow suit.
Health CEC Claire Namenge said the County has trained more than 200 officers on Covid-19 preparedness.
