Health workers in Turkana County are reportedly stealing drugs from County hospitals.
According to the County government, the most affected hospital is Lodwar County referral hospital.
In the last two months, patients have been complaining of missing and shortage of drugs at Lodwar referral hospital.
Lodwar County referral hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr. Stephen Ekitela warned the health workers tha t those found stealing drugs will be sacked.
Speaking while launching the Youth friendly Centre at Lodwar county referral hospital, he said he is aware of the reports and complaints of missing drugs at the hospital despite the efforts of the county government to equip hospitals.
Residents said those who steal the drugs equip their private hospitals.
Ekitela urged patients to ensure they clear their hospital bills because the County government will only help those who are less fortunate.
He added that the county government will carter for serious bills such as those wounded in attacks, people infected with HIV/AIDs, Tuberculosis and cancer patients.
Joseph Lokaale,a resident of Lodwar town complained of poor service at Lodwar County referral hospital.
“We are always told to go to specific chemists to buy prescribed drugs,” he said.
His sentiments were echoed by Ann Ekiru.
