President Uhuru Kenyatta has told off his deputy William Ruto not to politicize the war on corruption.
In an apparent reference to DP William Ruto and his allies, the president said, “We don’t want corruption to be used to fix anybody. Please let it not be an agenda for you in funerals and weddings,”
He was speaking in Nairobi during the launch of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) report.
The head of state said Kenya must fix corruption because it’s an impediment and a stumbling block to development.
The president who appeared agitated, asked politicians to leave the investigating agencies to do their work.
He said Kenya must protect the money it has so that it can be channeled towards the right investments.
In an apparent defense of the handshake between former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and himself, Uhuru said politicians should know that they are political competitors and not political detractors.
He said elections come and go but the people remain.
He said in order for him to serve all Kenyans, he has to reach out to everybody including those who did not vote for him.
The president said there at least 46 percent of Kenyans who did not support him and they cannot go anywhere else.
“They must be served. How do you do it without talking? We must reach out to each other,” Uhuru said.
On 21st March, Deputy President William Ruto said he is being targeted in the war on corruption.
He said the war has degenerated into impunity.
Ruto was speaking at a conference in Mombasa.
He said there is an attempt to paint him in a bad light for political reasons.
He was opening the First Inter-Professionals Summit.
Currently, the DCI is investigating the loss of over shs 27billion meant for the construction of Arror Kimwarer and Itare dams.
