The Kenyatta Family has pledged to support the re-election of Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku in 2022.
In a rare public endorsement, through President Uhuru Kenyatta’s eldest sister, Christina Wambui Pratt, the family declared their support for Lenku at a fundraiser in Kajiado town over the weekend.
” We have seen the Governor’s work which is putting the County on the map of the fastest developing counties. I urge Kajiado residents to vote our Governor back,” said Pratt.
She added that the strategic position of Kajiado County as a neighbor to Nairobi requires it to have a visionary leadership as the County will be part of Nairobi City in years to come.
“We have faith in Governor Lenku. When am in Kajiado, I feel at peace and at home,” said Pratt who was accompanied by his son Jomo at the fundraiser.
The Kenyatta Family is not known to publicly endorse political leaders and instead choose to support their strong allies in the background.
As such therefore, Mrs Pratt’s public support for Governor Lenku is a shot in the arm for the Governor who has stuck with President Kenyatta during Jubilee Party’s tumultuous era after fall out with Deputy President William Ruto.
Before the Fundraiser, Mrs Pratt and an exclusive circle of invited guests, were hosted for a luncheon at the Governor’s Official residence, an indicator there could be a deep family relationship between the Governor and the First Family.
At the fundraiser, Governor Lenku and the 178 councilors pledged to follow President Kenyatta’s choice of preferred successor as it would guarantee stability in the County.
The councilors want to build a 6-storey commercial plaza at a plot donated to them by Governor Lenku.
Yesterday’s fundraiser netted Sh 10 Million.
