A section of Kitui County professionals have poured cold water on a book authored by former Kitui senator David Musila.
They said the book seeks to discredit Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
In excerpts of the book ‘Seasons of hope’ set to be launched tomorrow March 28, Musila portrays the former vice president as a betrayer and sell-out.
The former senator writes that he helped Kalonzo climb the leadership ladder up to the position of vice president but claims the Wiper leader stabbed him in the back when he desperately needed him most.
The basis of Musila’s attack on Kalonzo emanates from his bid to run for Kitui governor’s position in 2017 against the then sitting Wiper governor Julius Malombe.
Musila writes that Kalonzo rigged him out of the Wiper party primaries in favor of Malombe.
Both lost to the current Kitui governor Charity Ngilu.
It is these statements from the former Wiper chairman that have angered a section of the community, among them Kitui professionals and Kamba council of elders.
The coordinator of Mwingi Professionals Forum Campbell Munyambu dismissed Musila as a selfish and bitter old man who was engaging in an evil campaign to malign his former party boss.
“If the book is meant to show how Kalonzo refused to bend the law to favor Musila during the nominations, then it is a useless book full of bitterness. The claims that Musila helped Kalonzo climb the leadership ladder are also lies because all his life, he has been too selfish to assist anybody,” Munyambu said.
He said that during the Wiper primaries for Kitui gubernatorial race, Musila as the party chairman was rooting for a direct ticket yet the party leader wanted free and fair nomination process.
“When kalonzo refused to give him a direct ticket, he became bitter and started plotting how to rig the elections” Munyambu added.
“Musila wanted a direct ticket yet there was a strong, sitting governor who was very loyal to the party. His selfishness led the party to lose the seat…he should actually apologized to Kalonzo and Kitui residents instead of engaging in juvenile antics,” Munyambu charged.
Despite Musila claiming in his book that he has forgiven Kalonzo for the betrayal, Munyambu described the former PC as a vindictive and vengeful man who never forgives.
He cited as an example the death and subsequent burial of Kalonzo’s father in which Musila never sent a message of condolence and failed to attend the funeral ceremony.
“All the leaders of Ukambani and the whole country led by the president and his deputy attended the burial but Musila chose not to attend due to his bitterness. He did not even care to send a word of pole, so how has he forgiven Kalonzo?” Munyambu posed.
Munyambu said Musila has no following in Kitui or Ukambani region and should be ignored to “wallow in his old age bitterness”
On Sunday, a section of leaders from Makueni castigated Musila saying he was becoming a community pariah and urged him to join other leaders by supporting Kalonzo.
They called on the former senator to apologize to the Kamba community and the Wiper leader for what they called his “shameful conduct”.
