There is uncertainty, anxiety and indecisiveness on the part of the top management at Masinde Muliro University.
This has been caused by lack of a substantive Vice Chancellor and his Deputies.
The University Unions including UASU, KUSU, and KUDHEIHA have expressed concerns over the delayed recruitment.
The leaders representing the unions, while addressing a press conference at the university said all is not well.
They blamed the Public Service Commission (PSC) for having not recruited the MMUST top managers six Months after receiving applications from candidates.
“The PSC rules and regulations require that names of applicants are published in the daily newspapers within 21 days after the deadline of applications. However, since they received applications on 23rd February 2019, this has not been done.” said Ronald Wamalwa, KUSU’s Secretary MMUST chapter.
The VC and DVC’s positions fell vacant on November 30 last year after the expiry of the terms of Professor’s Fredrick Otieno and DVC’s Igara Kabachi, Josephine Ngaira and Joseph Rotich.
The union leaders read mischief in the delays.
They warned against interference and called for strict adherence to leadership guidelines and procedures in the recruitment.
The unionists meanwhile want the university chancellor Peter Muthoka and the university council to extend the terms of office of the current acting VC Professor Joseph Bosire.
“We are pleading with the Chancellor to prevail upon the MMUST council to extend the term of office of Ag. VC Prof. Joseph Bosire. Since his appointment on December 1st, 2018, he has managed to stabilize the institution hence peace and tranquility. ” said Robinson Oduma , chairman UASU –MMUST chapter
KUSU chairman Onzere Mulongo urged the Chancellor to push the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission-EACC and the Director of Public Prosecution-DPP to fast track corruption cases at the University during the past regime.
“We appeal to the chancellor to take up this matter urgently in order to prevent loss of money. Other public resources may also be lost due to the current impasse” Mulongo said.
