The Labour Party of Kenya Chaired by Professor Julia Ojiambo is in shambles.
Internal power struggles are the order of the day since the last elections.
Party leader Ababu Namwamba resigned from the Party last year to take up the position of Cabinet Administrative Secretary in the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Several Party members have accused him of “vanishing into thin air” and leaving them “politically orphaned”.
They said Ababu does not pick their calls.
Last week, the Party said it had withdrawn its candidate for the Wajir West by-election.
The decision was announced by Party ‘Secretary General’ Joe Khalende who said this was after consultations with the Deputy President William Ruto.
However, a section of other party officials who claim to be the true officials said the Party had not withdrawn its candidate.
They dismissed Khalende and said the picture he allegedly took with the DP was ‘fake’ since it’s an old picture.
Mayabi told Hot News he is the true Party Secretary General.
Mayabi said Khalende is an imposter.
He said the Party’s NEC will deliberate on the issue.
“I can categorically put it to the law abiding members of LABOUR PARTY OF KENYA that this will be the last time our party will ever be abused. I assure Kenyans that there is no splinter group in LPK and that the SG is Eng. Reuben Mayabi,” he said.
Mayabi said LPK has not withdrawn its candidate Captain Ali Noor.
“It’s true H.E the Governor of Wajir and other likeminded individuals together with the Candidate Ali Noor and me have had this discussion but just like you all know, in politics it’s not done until it is actually done. When we finally put ink to paper and this communication is made by my office (SG LABOUR PARTY OF KENYA) to the IEBC until then count all else as a common rumor,” he said.
But Khalende told Hot News that he met the DP and that they agreed that LPK will not field a candidate in Wajir West.
However, Mayabi said Khalende is the SG for the Party’s youth league and that he should stick to youth affairs.
Currently, LPK’S chairperson is Professor Julia Ojiambo, Party leader position is vacant, the secretary general position is being contested by the two individuals and the treasurer is Partrick Musembi.
Last week, ODM’s Mohamed Yusuf withdrew his candidature to support Jubilee’s Mohamed Kolosh.
