Residents of Alego/Usonga have irked the public in Siaya after they vowed to retain the Governor’s seat.
Led by Alego /Usonga parliamentary aspirant Nicholas Kut, they said Governor Rasanga’s replacement must come from Alego/ Usongo.
He said they do not want political interference from other quarters.
Rasanga hails from Alego Usonga
His term will come to an end in 2022.
He will have served as Governor for 10 years.
Before the 2013 elections, leaders from different Luo Clans in Siaya had an informal pact where they agreed that the Governor’s “seat was going to be rotational”.
A potential Governor was to come from each Clan or Sub -County.
Siaya County has 6 constituencies.
They are Rarieda, Gem, Bondo, Alego Usonga, Ugenya and Ugunja.
During an informal meeting on Friday, Nicholas Kut said come what may “the Governor has to come from Alego /Usonga”.
In November 2019, a section of Siaya MCA’s speaking to Hot News on condition of anonymity, said the seat is not rotational.
“If a good leader still comes from Alego/ Usonga, we will elect him or her the Governor. We cannot say the seat is rotational. That way, we may end up having bad leaders, “said the Rep.
However, the rep said Alego Usonga MP Samuel Onunga Atandi reportedly wants the seat to be rotational.
In 2013, Governor Rasanga was challenged by businessman William Oduol.
In 2017, he was challenged by former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo.
A Wells Fargo Administrator Willis Ayiecko Onyango is reportedly scheming how to take over the seat.
