Busia Sugar produced by Busia Sugar Industries Limited is now available for sale, Operations Manager of the Busibwabo based factory Hussein Kaka has said.
Kaka told Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong, who went on a tour of the factory on Sunday that residents can now purchase their sweet sugar from local shops and supermarkets.
“This is pure sugar and not mercury; this factory values its customers, and we shall endeavor to give them value for their money,” he told the two leaders.
However, Kaka said the factory is facing cane shortage brought about by poaching expressing optimism that they shall overcome this challenge soon.
He said the factory started crashing the cane on February 28, noting that it has a crashing capacity of 3,500 tons per day.
The factory with an investment worth of Sh4.6 billion had delayed to commence cane crashing due to legal battles with rival firms, until the intervention of top leadership.
The company and sugar cane farmers are rooting for zoning system which they say is the way to go to bring sanity in the operations of factories in Nyanza and Western regions.
