City MCAs allied to the Azimio Coalition have been ordered to show cause why their forearm licenses should not be revoked.
The firearm licensing Board has written to the reps to appear before it within 24 hours.
The Board through its chairman Rashid Yakub, wrote to Speaker Ken Ngondi, Deputy Speaker Paul Kados and Ngei Ward Representative Redson Otieno .
“According to a Security brief received, you have been actively engaged in inciting goons into violence and destruction of property within the central business district and its outskirts. This paints you negatively as a civilian firearm holder and that’s is the reason I direct you to avail yourself to clear your name within 24 hours. Failure to honor this invitation will lead to revocation of your license as outlined in Cap 114 Section 7 subparagraph 13(D),” wrote Rashid Yakub.
Addressing a press conference at City Hall, the reps said the move is aimed at endangering them.
Led by majority leader Peter Imwatok , they said the Kenya Kwanza Government is engaging in witch hunt and targeting ODM leader Raila Odinga’s supporters.
The reps said they need to be armed and cited a case where an MCA was shot dead in Kakamega by supportrs of an MP.
“The Speaker, Deputy Speaker and members have foes and rivals, disarming them is endangering them. They are a target for assassination. No supporter of Azimio mobilized violence nor was involved in demos as alleged by the Firearms Licensing Board,” Imwatok said.
