Embakasi police station commander Chief Inspector Lucy Waithera has said it is not her nature to harass junior police officers despite accusations against her.
“It is an interesting case. The two officers have been taken to court; I have not been taken.” She said on phone.
Two junior officers through a letter that has been doing rounds on social media have accused Waithera of harassment and intimidation.
“We have been working under harsh conditions, threats, frustrations, embarrassment and intimidations from our boss C.I Lucy Waithera.” Reads a protest letter sent to Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai.
The letter dated April 6,2021 has been copied to Deputy Inspector General of police Edward Mbugua and Nairobi police boss Augustine Nthumbi.
Their immediate bosses including Embakasi subcounty police boss and the OCS have also been served.
The bone of contention between the police constables Rogers Birgen,Orina Meraba and their boss started when the two were sent to Mombasa to collect a motor vehicle that the OCS had allegedly blacklisted.
The OCS was the investigating officer and at some point, differed with the duo on how to handle the case.
The suspect, John Omondi then moved to court to protest how the case was being handled.
Orina claims in the letter that Waithera insulted her before his colleagues, prisoners, and members of the public.
“I booked this complaint vide OB: 33/28/03/2021 at 1025.” Orina said.
He said he is yet to get Justice.
The constable said instead Waithera went ahead to accuse him, and his colleague of defamation and she reported the matter at the DCI headquarters.
The two have since recorded statements.
They have since been transferred to Muthangari and Hardy police stations, respectively.
The duo further claim that Waithera has threatened them with transfers to far flung hardship regions.
“She has given us an assurance that we should treat the new station as just a stop over.” Reads the letter.
