Ex- Embakasi East MP John Ogutu Omondi on Sunday led Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga and other leaders from Siaya County in a fundraiser.
The Harambee was in aid of St Benedict Catholic church in Central Alego.
The Church is an outstation of Mbaga Parish which is in the Metropolitan Diocese of Kisumu.
The Harambee raised shs 2.1 million.
Mbaga Parish Priest Fr John Maria Oginga led the service.
Parishioner Ben Auma thanked the leaders for coming to the aid of the Church members.
“This will go a long way in helping us roof the church. We are struggling to put up a modern Church building which can house our 800 members. Currently, very few people attend church due to the size of the current one,” he said.
Auma said they need more Harambees in future so that they can complete the whole project.
He asked Siaya Political leaders not to shy away from attending the fundraisers when called upon.
Speaking during the event, the former Embakasi East MP John Ogutu Omondi sked the residents to support their leaders.
“We are eagerly waiting for the outcome of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI). This will give the Country political direction. Lets all support our leaders so that they serve us better.,” Omondi said.
Governor Rasanga thanked the residents for supporting his regime.
He added that he is not simply focused on leaving a good legacy -but will ensure that when his term ends, all Siaya residents will be economically empowered.
Other leaders present during the fundraiser were Deputy Governor James Okumbe, EALA Mp Oburu Oginga, Ugunja Mp Opiyo Wandayi, Ugenya Mp David Ochieng, Bondo Mp Gideon Ochanda, South East Alego MCA Joseph Mboha, Siaya town MCA James Otare, Usonga MCA Sylvester Madialo, Central Alego MCA Leonard Oriaro, North Alego MCA Vincent Odawa, West Alego MCA Judy Okumu, West Ugenya MCA Oduor Odongo, nominated MCAs Winnie Otieno, Bernard Adallah, Tabu Osewe, Linda Juma and Caren Ayika .
Siaya county secretary Joseph Ogutu, CECMs Dismas Wakla, Adrian Ouma, Richard Mungla, Mary Olute and Elizabeth Odhiambo were also present.
