The Government will spend shs 20 billion to buy modern equipment’s for the police.
During a public baraza in Garissa Town, CS Kithure Kindiki said the plan will standardize security services across all regions in the country.
The move seeks to procure state-of-the-art weapons, vehicles, aircraft and personal protective equipment.
These will be given to specialized units to effectively combat terrorism, cross-border and transnational organized crime, banditry, the trade in illicit brews and narcotics among other existing and emerging security threats.
Among the first beneficiaries of the programme include Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU), Security of Government Buildings Unit (SGB), Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), Special Operations Group (SOG), Border Patrol Unit (BPU) and Critical Infrastructure Police Unit (CIPU) among others.
