The upcoming Kibra by-election will be a litmus test to the handshake deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
On Monday afternoon Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju announced that the ruling party will field a candidate in the by- election to replace Ken Okoth who died last month after a long battle with cancer.
Previously, Jubilee and ODM have had deals in Ugenya, Wajir West and Embakasi South.
“Our analysis and consultations confirm that our Jubilee Party is competitive in the forthcoming political contest. We would like to tell party members that Jubilee party will be fielding a candidate in the forthcoming Kibra Constituency by-election on November 7, 2019,” Tuju said.
He added that it’s good to note that the neighboring Lang’ata constituency was won by a Jubilee candidate contrary to conventional political analysis.
“We are therefore giving notice to our members who are interested in contesting the seat on a Jubilee party ticket to forward their applications to National elections board.” He said.
Tuju says the condition and timeliness will be in accordance with dictates of the party National Elections Board.
