Governor Cyprian Awiti’s impeachment is looming.
MCAs from the County said they are unhappy with how he has been running the County.
While debating his performance in the Assembly on Tuesday, the reps said Awiti has run down the County and no longer lives in Homabay but resides in Nairobi.
“Since we came here in 2017. Nothing has been done even in the Wards. Money has been allocated but no services. Members, the thing falls on the Governor. He is in Nairobi 24 hours and 7 days a week. He only comes here when there is money. Every ministry and Awiti’s administration are rotten. I am going to lead the way forward. Awiti must go home,” said MCA Philemon Okombo.
Several other reps seconded Okombo and urged him to “take the rope and hang the cat”.
The Governors impeachment motion is being drafted.
The reps said Awiti is not development conscience and that he does not even supervise county projects.
They added that the Governor diverted over shs 200 million allocated to the Agriculture docket for “personal use”
“A CEC came and told us that the 200 million we approved for the Agriculture docket was diverted and the docket only received shs 2 million,” said the reps.
The reps added that the House is rising to the occasion and will “take the bull by the horn”
The MCA’s regretted that they have let the people of Homabay down and apologized.
“We will get the courage to hit the snake by hitting the head and not the tail, “they said.
If impeached, Awiti will be the 4th Governor in Kenya to be bundled out of office.
