DCI Director George Kinoti has said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations is committed to investigations that touch on theft of public property and not targeting specific individuals.
Kinoti said his decision to revive old corruption cases was a promise he made two years ago when he was appointed DCI boss.
He said this is contrary to claims that he is targeting Deputy President William Ruto.
He spoke on Saturday at PCEA headquarters in Nairobi during a training on corporate governance organized by the Professional Criminologists Association of Kenya.
“I am not investigating a case that is touching on him. I am purely investigating whether there was plunder of public resources.” Kinoti told Hot News.
On Monday Kinoti said the directorate has revived cases of suspicious land deals including the sale of a section of Ngong forest to Kenya Pipeline Corporation fifteen years ago and the land where Weston Hotel is built on Langata road.
Ruto is a person of interest in both cases where he was charged together with two other people for selling the forest land to KPC about 15 years ago.
The DP was Eldoret North MP then.
The case was dismissed in court under unclear circumstances.
The DP owns Weston Hotel.
The land where the hotel is built is being claimed by Kenya Civil Aviation Authority who claim Ruto irregularly acquired it.
Kinoti said people corrupted their way and built empires through theft of public properties because of availability of a rotten system.
“There was every environment to make Kenya a playground of gangsters both economically, politically and socially. This will not happen to Kenyans again.” He said.
The DCI Director said his aim is to tell the public the people responsible for the poverty they are facing today.
“If we can, we are going to stop them and if they thought they are smart that they have covered their footsteps, then we are going to uncover them.” Kinoti said.
He added that those who stole public funds are known.
“We cannot continue complaining of poor roads, bridges, medicine and education when we know who took away almost all the resources of the Republic of Kenya.” He said.
