Chief Justice David Maraga has come out strongly to defend the Judiciary over attacks by other arms of government.
Addressing the press at the Supreme Court, Maraga said that his office has been undermined by several Permanent Secretaries and Cabinet Secretaries.
He said that during the last Mashujaa Day, he was forced to use a sidewalk to the main dias and the MC did not even acknowledge his arrival.
“I will choose the state functions to attend if my office is undermined further,” he warned
He added that the Judiciary budget has been cut by 2.9 billion.
Maraga said the Judiciary is being disrespected and that he won’t resign.
Maraga said the war on corruption has been undermined, mobile courts will be stopped and there will be no new courts across the Country because of lack of funds.
He added that he has been at pains while hosting several Chief Justices from other Countries because he cannot use the VIP lounge at the JKIA.
“I have been forced to use the Kenya Airways Lounge while hosting visiting CJs from other parts of the Country. I am not bothered myself-but where do you want me to take the visitors,” he said.
Maraga regretted that recently, he was denied the “Protocol Cars” by the Ministry of foreign affairs to ferry foreign Chief Justices who had visited the Country.
He said that some Cabinet Secretaries and Permanent Secretaries were telling him that “he will leave office this year,”.
In 2017, after the Supreme Court led by Maraga nullified the general election, President Uhuru Kenyatta vowed to “re-visit” the Judiciary.
Maraga said the court of appeal won’t sit in Nyeri, Nakuru, Mombasa and Garissa because of lack of funds.
He said from next month, the Judicial officers will not have fuel and some Judges will not be able to attend courts sessions and hear cases.
The Chief Justice said it was a deliberate attempt to try and deny him chase cars and that he dos not have an official car for his office.
