Artisans from Kamukunji Jua Kali Association have written to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) appealing for action against Shauri Moyo police station OCS Alphonse Ngundo.
In the letter dated May 6 2021, signed by the association’s acting secretary Tom Ogello,Ngundo is accused of shooting Dennis Otieno in the chest on April 29,2021.
The letter that has since been received by IPOA reads in part, “The OCS triggered his gun and hit one of our members in the chest with a live bullet. The young man is struggling. To us this was police misconduct.”
Hot News has established that on the fateful day, police officers accompanied by former officials of the association stormed the association’s office and a disagreement ensued.
This is after they tried to eject the current officials and attempted to lock a public toilet under the association’s management.
IPOA through its communication manager Dennis Oketch confirmed receiving the complaint and promised to give an official statement on May 7, 2021.
Ngundo is a former OCS at Central police station, Nairobi.
He mobilized his colleagues at the station in 2016 and helped to feed three hundred street children to mark the new year.
