Kajiado Governor beats UDA and Jubilee competitors as Senator Sakaja overcomes degree scandal to beat Uhuru and Raila choice for City top seat, Polycarp Igathe
Governor Joseph Ole Lenku will bounce back to office and beat his rivals from the UDA and Jubilee Party candidates, an opinion survey shows.
The poll by Trends and Insights of Africa (TIFA) also shows that Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja will easily beat Jubilee Candidate Polycarp Igathe, who is being supported by the Azimio La Umoja Coalition.
The poll further shows ODM leader Raila Odinga will beat Deputy President William Ruto in the Presidential race in Kajiado. Raila will poll 47 % of the votes against Ruto’s 39 %.
In Nairobi, Mr Odinga will also beat Mr Ruto with 52 % against 34% of the votes.
In the Kajiado Gubernatorial race Lenku scooped 36% of the votes while his rivals Katoo Ole Metito’s and Jubilee’s David Nkedienye tie at 25 %.
The gap means Lenku may be one of the few Governors who will bounce back after a grueling battle for votes under the Azimio La Umoja Coalition which at one time even considered zoning some regions in favor of Coalition partners.
Sakaja seems to have survived his degree controversy and milked it dry for sympathy among Nairobi voters who generally do not value academic credentials when evaluating candidates.
Sakaja’s popularity is a big blow to Former Equity Bank Senior official Polycarp Igathe who has incidentally won support from both President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio Presidential Candidate, Mr Odinga.
