A section of Luo elders and religious leaders from Luo Nyanza have come out to support Governor Okoth Obado.
Obado was charged in court last week over corruption.
The court barred him from office until the case is heard and determined.
During a meeting at a Nairobi Hotel, the group said it will meet all the MCAs from Migori County and persuade them not to impeach Obado.
Led by Joshua Ouma from Migori, they faulted ODM for asking MCAs to impeach obado.
“We are asking all the people of Luo Nyannza which includes, Siaya, Homabay and Kisumu to stand with Obado. We know the charges levelled against him are false and fictious. Its because he is not a friend of the Odinga’s that’s why he is being persecuted,” Ouma said.
He said the matter is in court and ODM should not interfere with court issues.
Ouma said many other Governors have stollen but left to go scot free.
“ODM should stop intimidating people. In the past, it has imposed on people unwanted leaders. Obado has helped the people of Migori County. This is unlike other Governors who are loyal to the party and not the people,” he said.
In 2013, Obado was elected Governor on a PDP ticket and defeated the ODM candidate Ochilo Ayacko.
In 2017, ODM lured him to abandon PDP.
The move was meant to tame his growing political influence.
Obado fell for the trap and little did he know that ODM will abandon him at the “hour of need”
