The Ministry of Works sports club in South C that had been closed for renovations will be opened on 1st December.
Woks PS Gordon Kihalangwa told Hot News that the renovations had delayed due to budgetary constraints, but they have now resumed.
The club offers sports grounds and facilitation, ultra-modern gym and health club, swimming, accommodation, social and corporate events, kiddy park, catering services, Bar and restaurant services, Beauty parlor, saloon, Barbershop and massage.
Last week, a section of members appealed to the PS to hasten the repairs.
They said they have no where to go and relax since the club was closed in March.
When Hot News visited the club, a contractor was rehabilitating the Kitchen and gym facilities.
“Change comes with a price. Many members are retired and feel it is safe to be in that Club. I want to see a functioning club that is well managed. We had a meeting to discuss its opening last week and we are working towards that” said the PS.
Kihalangwa called on the members to be patient as the contractor finalizes the repairs.
He said shs 63 million has been set aside to complete the works and shs 30 million to kickstart the operations.
Works Secretary Okweto Jowi said they will hasten the repairs.
“We know some of our members are old and do not like the idea of going elsewhere. We are ensuring that the club is modernized so that they enjoy the new state-of the art facilities” Okweto said.
John Maina a retired civil servant and who is a member said they will be patient so that the rehabilitation works are complete.
“We actually laud the PS for the initiative. This club had been neglected and run down for long. We are grateful to PS Kihalangwa for the repairs,” Maina said.
