Several MPs and Governors have protested the Governments move to distribute Covid-19 relief food through the County Commissioners.
Speaking to Hot News, several MPs who sought anonymity said they are saddened by the move because they are not able to attend to their constituents needs.
Last week, the Government banned the Sonko Rescue Team from distributing relief food to slum residents in Nairobi.
The Government said the move is to prevent the spread of Covid-19 cases.
The same week, Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Sam Ojwang banned politicians from donating sanitizers that are branded with their names and pictures.
On Friday, two people died in Kibera slums when they scrambled for food items donated by ODM chief Raila Odinga.
“They don’t want us to get political mileage. They also don’t want us to help our people. The Government wants to distribute relief food through the local administrations, yet several people have been left out, “said an MP who sought anonymity.
Kesses MP Kiprop Mishra is also one of the people who have been greatly affected after he was on Monday stopped from distributing relief food to his constituents.
The Governments move may discourage potential well-wishers who wanted to donate relief food.
