A staff at KEPROBA has denied social media reports that there were attempts to embezzle shs 7 million belonging to the organization.
The Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency) KEPROBA) was born after the Export Promotion Council and Brand Kenya were merged.
Insiders complained that one Christine Mwaka, Director Corporate Services, colluded with CEO Peter Biwott and tried to embezzle shs 7 million from the China EXPO funds.
The insiders went on to say that the duo was forced to write a letter to the former Trade PS Chris Kiptoo detailing that they had closed an account in China together which had the funds because they had never declared earlier.
“I note the above, but these assertions are not correct,” she said.
Mwaka told Hot News that it was procedural to write to the Ps first seeking permission to open an account for the expo and procedural to write to him saying the account had been closed.
She said there was no wrongdoing and blamed a section of staff at KEPROBA for being malicious.
But insiders still insisted that the China expo accounts were not audited and that shs 7 million was nearly lost were it not for the intervention of the Board.
Internal Auditor Victor Odindo did not respond to our question on if he traveled to China to audit the accounts.
Victor did not respond to calls nor text messages.
