The Professional Criminologists Association of Kenya has said it is keen to support President Uhuru’s efforts in fighting the Al Shabaab extremists in the Country.
Uhuru has outlined several ways to win the war against terrorism.
This includes holding of public barazas and empowering security agencies among other measures.
Uhuru’s strategy comes in the wake of several attacks this year including the attack on a military base in Lamu county on January 5 which jointly hosts Kenyan and US troops.
He spoke yesterday during the annual National Security Review and Planning conference at State House Mombasa.
The President called on the police to arrest and prosecute financiers and recruiters of terrorists.
“Those that have faced Al Shabaab directly have done the Nation proud.” The president said.
In a statement to newsrooms signed by the association’s director of communications Rishi Parikh,PCAK says the war on terrorism will be worn through the president’s strategy.
“PCAK believes that the president’s strategic focus on multi-agency coordination, advanced training and equipment upgrade, community involvement and incentives for officers is certainly an approach that is well considered owing to the complex nature of terrorism.” Reads the presser in part.
PCAK has said top on its agenda is to introduce Life Skills and Safety Clubs in secondary schools this year.
He said this is through partnering with Education and Interior Ministries. The criminologists body says the initiative will help curb drug and substance abuse, radicalization’s related crimes and other self-destructive behaviors.
The statement by PCAK further says the fight against crime on humanity and property requires reference into crime research, incorporating scientific research, integrity of anti-crime officers, judicial system and volunteering of information to the authorities by members of the public.
PCAK is a professional body registered by the registrar of societies and mandated to oversee registration of all criminologists, training, welfare and ensuring professionalism in the field of criminology in Kenya.
The association’s motto is Crime Must Fall.
